Das Museum of Queensland war umsonst... ein günstiger Tag :-)
Das Museum war tatsächlich auch sehr gut. Highlights waren eine Ausstellung der Queensland Icons (Dinge die typisch Queensland sind, etwa XXXX Bier oder die berühmt berüchtigte Sugar Cane Toad), eine Halle in der Tiermodelle nach Größe sortiert waren (von Insekten bis hin zum Diprotodon/Riesenwombat, das ausgestorben ist). An der Wand waren dann noch die Umrisse einiger besonders großer Tiere wie etwa Walen... sehr beeindruckend das ganze.
Interessantestes Stück des Sammelsurium war aber ein Deutscher Panzer aus dem 1.Weltkrieg namens Mephisto. Das Queensland Bataillon der Britischen Armee hat den irgendwo im No-Mans-Land gefunden und einfach mal mit nach Brisbane genommen...
Nach so viel Kultur sind wir mit der Fähre ins Fortitude Valley gefahren, angeblich dem Pub Viertel Brsibanes. Nunja, sah gut aus, in einem Pub spielte eine Live Band... aber es war auch erst 15 Uhr.
Als wir zurück auf den Camping Platz kamen, waren Thorsten (Australien-Kommilitone von Franzi) und Anika (Seine Schwester, macht gerade Work&Travel in Australien) auch da und wir haben den Rest des Abends mit einer nicht unbeachtlichen Menge Goon (Australischer Wein aus der Tüte... nicht so schlecht wie es sich anhört) verbracht. Ach ja, es haben sich noch zwei weitere Deutsche zu uns gesellt, sie kamen aus dem Ruhrpott... ihre Namen sind uns leider entfallen :-)
Our 2nd Day in Brisbane. It started with showers. Great. Oh well, we declared this day 'museum's day'. Hence we went to the Museum of Queensland, the entrance was free. Even better... :-)
The museum was pretty good. Here some highlights: Queensland icons such as XXXX beer or the sugar cane toad, an exhibition of animals comparing their seize. It started with insects and ended with diprotodons (huge marsupial related to the wombat but extinct). At the wall behind were the shapes of some really big animals like a humpback whale and this massive turtle...
The most interesting piece of the whole exhibition was a German tank called Mephisto of the 1st world war. It is only in Brisbane because some battalion of Queensland found it in the No-Man's-Land and brought it with them when returning...
After having had a look into Queensland's culture and icons we made our way to Fortitude Valley. This is the area with the highest density of pubs, apparently. Well, it looked promising because in one pub there was a live band playing. And that at 3 pm, already...
When we were back at the camp ground we met up with Thorsten (German guy Franzi studied with in Oz) and Anika (his sister, doing work&travel in Oz). The rest of the evening we spent with chatting and drinking a not negligible amount of goon. Oh yes, we got to know some other German guys from Bochum. They just came over and had a few drinks with us... somehow we forgot their names. Oops!
